Welcome to the ValleyNet Security Website |
As more internet users get always-on highspeed connections and dial up subscribers spend more time connected, the need for good security and privacy practices increases. With the increase in home and small office networks, this becomes even more important.
On the following pages, we've put together a list of safe computing practices, url's to sites we feel are important and links to software that we think meets the needs of our subscribers. Some of the software is free, some shareware and some has to be purchased outright. A small investment in good software and time to properly configure it is much cheaper and less inconvenient than having your computer compromised by an intruder, files destroyed by a worm or virus, your identity stolen or financial information sent to someone by a Trojan. For more information and signs that your computer might be suffering from spyware or viruses, see the list of symptoms. We also have a new FAQ online.
Spam falls into the category of malicious, dangerous, annoying and a threat to privacy and computer security. The Postini Message Center spam and virus filtering system addresses this issue in a separate website. Worried about all the personal information that might still be on the hard drive and how to REALLY remove that data? See our new Tips and Tricks page for ways to wipe that old hard drive that will make it almost impossible for even the best data recovery software to reconstruct your personal or financial information.
